Can i go Back to Colombia with my resident status, coming from a political asylum?

i came to this country back in 2000, and i am a legal resident now trough a political asylum.

actually, if you currently have your green card, and are not in asylee status, the answer is yes. If you are in asylee status, then you would not be able to return without risking your status. However, once you have a green card, and later on as a US citizen, you have the same rights to travel as any other green card holder or citizen. Just remember a green card holder is not a US citizen, so if you get into any trouble, the US can’t and won’t be able to help you. You are still a Colombian citizen by their laws and subtject to all their laws.

  1. You would be at risk for losing your residency, because if you are going back, things couldn’t have been that bad, or so the reasoning might go. You’d do better to apply for citizenship, so you have a US passport to present when you come back.
