High Royds Former Pauper Lunatic Asylum
Posted on November 28th, 2009 by admin
Video Footage exhibiting the extent of damage caused by the local lead thief.
High Royds is probably the finest example of the “Broad Arrow Echelon Corridor System In The Country”
Designed by the surveyor to the county Vickers Edwards, his remit to create the ultimate accomodation for 1340 “Pauper Insane”
The administration building represents an ultimate attention to detail with many fine features, for example an Italian laid mosaic and Burmantoft Tiles complimented by exclusive intricate stained glass.
High Royds opened in October 1888 and recieved 30 female patients from Wadlsley Sheffield, so began 120 years of history.

It’s such a …
It’s such a sacrilege. Once it’s gone that’s it for ever- never again will anything so amazing be built like this again. The council need to enforce the restoration of every last inch by the developer or curtail their planning permission for future developments (whenever that may be in this current climate!)
Great music too.
