What could the EU do if a Tory govt said we will now set up our own laws on immigration and asylum?
we pay the EU billions every year and buy mountains of their stuff ………they wouldnt invade us so what could they possibly do if we chose to cherry pick which laws we want to instigate?

There is no formal procedure to leave the EU but they have not said we can’t leave. I believe the ability to leave will be removed in the next "treaty" that they produce.
The Tory government would not get us out of the EU. At this stage, it is full withdrawal or nothing and they would not do that, even though the EU do control our country. The EU won’t let us be half members.

One there is no reason why we cant set our own immigration policy for non EU countries this includes asylum the idea was for refugees from war torn europe but it is now purely economic and a joke.As for leaving we could still trade with europe as a favoured nation like the Swiss and Norway I think or one of the other Scandinavian countries.Since we still see ourselves as world traders and financial dealers I think we would be better off.If europe grows to a USA still continent and government we can be there little tax haven just like the channel islands

LabourRfinished got it spot on. I don’t agree with his political affiliation but he hit the nail on the head after what Brown and labour did to us with the Lisbon treaty. Get a copy and read it sometimes but plan on it taking days and if you want to truly understand it weeks. We here in the UK actually have no need of our parliament at all now except to act as a glorified local council. The Tories are actually in agreement with the treaty as well as when Cameron went to Brussels to kowtow to the EU leadership a couple of weeks ago he actually agreed in principle with the treaty. Clegg and the libdems can’t wait for us to come under the communistic EU either as it gives more power to our already corrupt politicians to steal even more money than they do now. Once the EU is in full swing their politboro doesn’t even have to be elected. You know those people who call themselves MEPs. Kind of like Mandelson and Glynnis Kinnock in our own govt. cabinet. Give the EU another 5 years of govt here by any of the 3 main parties and we’ll only be a shire in the greater United States of Europe.

The only thing with EU membership is that we have to accept immigrants from other EU nations. But for those outside the EU, we have restrictions.
