I need some true insane asylum stories?

Posted on February 17th, 2010 by admin

I’ve been looking for some true horror stories about insane asylums of the past. Stuff about torture, human experiments, etc. If anyone can post some websites or books that you know of I’d appreciate it a lot. I’m thinking about making a movie and need some good and true resources.

Thanks.

Check out the movie The Changling. It was based on a true story and the insane asylum parts were very disturbing

Identify a B&W movie about a woman in an insane asylum?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin

I caught a portion of this movie on TV a while ago and was fascinated by it – never figured out what it is entitled – it’s an old black and white movie about a woman who is a patient in a mental hospital who is subtly manipulative and charming. One of the hospital’s employees (a psychiatrist, presumably) falls in love with her and is devastated when she has a lesbian tryst with another patient in the hospital, and ends up going insane himself. It seemed to be pretty edgy for its time – I wonder if anyone can tell me what movie this is. Thanks!
This was my first experience with Yahoo Answers – I thought it probably wouldn’t work, but got helpful responses within minutes. I’m in awe.

Snake Pit is the movie you are looking for, as others have said. If you are interested in this topic, there is another tremendous movie called "Frances" with Jessica Lange as Frances Farmer. She was an "uppity" woman in the film industry in the forties or so who stood up to the bosses, cops and other authorities. She ultimately ends up in a similar situation. It is a true story, and Frances Farmer is possibly one of the strongest women I know of.
