Does anyone know more about the Wedmeyer Hospital in Taylor, TX?

Posted on March 17th, 2010 by admin

The building is spooky looking in person, but also seems to have an amazing history. The trouble is that I have heard many different stories about what this place use to be. Some say it was an insane asylum for people who had lost their marbles. Others say it was a quarentined area for those in the 30’s or 40’s who got TB. Some say it was no more than a hosipital and eventually a retirement home…..anyone know anything different?

It is also known as the Taylor Sanitarium.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanatorium
"A sanatorium (also sanitorium, sanitarium) is a medical facility for long-term illness, typically tuberculosis. A distinction is sometimes made between "sanitarium" (a kind of health resort, as in the Battle Creek Sanitarium) and "sanatorium" (a hospital)."

1930 census there a 12 women listed as nurses living and working at the Taylor Sanitarium.

An "asylum" is a hospital for mentally disturbed or an unbalanced person. So unless the name was ever attached to this hospital, then I doubt it housed "people who lost their marbles".

Contact the Williamson County Historical or Genealogical Society for more information if they have it.

where can I go?

Posted on March 11th, 2010 by admin

I am being evicted. I have no job. I live in Chicago, and I’m white. Any cheap rental or homeless shelters I go to I will be the only white guy there, which will be a very awkward situation, to say the least. I will walk or ride a bicycle anywhere in the country at this point. There is no reason for me to be here anymore. The question is where can I go with no job history, no rental history and bad credit, even if I do find a job? Who will let me rent from them? I have no criminal record, no drugs, or insane asylum history. I’ll walk to f u cking Omaha or whatever. I don’t care.

I know it’s a long way, but the Raleigh-Durham area has the best job market in the U.S. according to Forbes magazine. Albuquerque, N.M. is also high on the list. See if you can find an archive at the library of recent Forbes magazine articles. I’m think that article was in the last 3 months. They analyzed available job markets throughtout the U.S. I’m sure there are some good prospects closer to you, but my memory isn’t that good.

Where can I go? What can I do?

Batman Arkham Asylum – The History

Posted on March 9th, 2010 by admin

Visisit my blog: http://www.megadosis.blogspot.com/

Arkham Asylum is located on the outskirts of Gotham City and is where those of Batman’s foes considered to be legally insane are incarcerated (other foes are incarcerated at Blackgate Penitentiary). Although it has had numerous administrators, recent comic books have featured Jeremiah Arkham.

The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, commonly referred to simply as Arkham Asylum, is a fictional psychiatric hospital in the DC Comics Universe, usually appearing in stories featuring Batman. Many psychopathic criminals from across the DC Universe, mostly from Batman’s own rogues gallery (such as the Joker, Poison Ivy, the Riddler, Bane and Two-Face), have been imprisoned within the Asylum.

Where can I get general genealogical information on patients in the Colorado State Hospital (now closed)?

Posted on March 7th, 2010 by admin

There were two relatives that have since passed that were in this state hospital/asylum in the 1920’s and 1930’s at least. I am kind of stuck on these two individuals in this part of our history.

I didn’t know they closed the state hospital. below is listed a link that may assist you. This hospital has been around since 1879 and probably will be around for more then our life time.
