Where can I go? What can I do?

I am being evicted. I have no job. I live in Chicago, and I’m white. Any cheap rental or homeless shelters I go to I will be the only white guy there, which will be a very awkward situation, to say the least. I will walk or ride a bicycle anywhere in the country at this point. There is no reason for me to be here anymore. The question is where can I go with no job history, no rental history and bad credit, even if I do find a job? Who will let me rent from them? I have no criminal record, no drugs, or insane asylum history. I’ll walk to f u cking Omaha or whatever. I don’t care.

i wish i could help but all i can say is dont come to michigan. the economy here is right down the toilet. my husband and i are employed at one of the best factories around these parts and are facing a foreclosure on our home.
please try to be positive, i know this is hard, i cant seem to see the good right now either, but you are not alone.

  1. I’m sorry you’re in that situation. You can probably rent a room but not an apartment. Or you can go to a shelter which you probably don’t really want to. I live in Chicago too and the resources here for helping people really aren’t good.

  2. I don’t know why you should feel awkward going anywhere, you are just as entitled to getting help as anyone else. You may be surprised, people are so wrapped up in thier own situations, they most likely will not react the way you think they will. There are always good people who are willing to help out.

  4. Have you considered a short time in the military? If you join the Air Force, learn a trade or go to school, your resume will improve. Plus, you’ll have a roof over your head and meals to eat. This will instantly solve your problem. DHL, in Ohio, is always hiring people in the sort center. The roof and meals will have to happen later, but the local churches could provide help.

  5. sorry to heard that. you could probably get a good amount of money for the comuter that your using, (if it is yours).
    a church is the answer that first poped into my mind. they helped my mom, but i live in the south, so i don’t know about chicago. if you have family you could contact them.

    i know your situation sucks to say the least, but your not alone. more and more people are ending up in your situation every day. it is what the US is comming to i fear.
