How many Asylum seekers are let in to NZ each year compared to other countries?

Posted on November 28th, 2009 by admin

If you have some statistics that would be great. School essay just gathering information. Not asking you to do my project for me.

No problem, I found a paper which is exactly what you are looking for from the United Nations, it is titled "NZ Asylum Seeker Numbers Low Despite Global Increase". You can download it here http://www.unhcr.org.au/pdfs/090324asylumstatsnz.pdf
It is only a 1 page paper so don’t worry you don’t need to do much reading.

I’m assuming you have a PDF reader (http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/ if you don’t) because its something that all students use.)

All this information was found through the UNHCR Statistics website at http://www.unhcr.org/statistics.html The UNHCR is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, just in case you were not aware.

Here are some more PDFs that are helpful:
http://www.unhcr.org/statistics/STATISTICS/49c796572.pdf
This paper is about asylum seeker levels in Industrialised countries, this should give you the statistics you need to compare New Zealand to other countries which take in asylum seekers.

Then you can use for example the CIA world fact book https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/nz.html to compare population levels between various countries so you can get an idea of what percentage of population immigration makes up.

There are also some papers by human rights organisations that criticise New Zealand’s treatment of refugees.

Here is on by Amnesty International:
http://asiapacific.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGASA320011999?open&of=ENG-NZL

Here is one by http://www.humanrights.co.nz
http://www.humanrights.co.nz/docs/Herald_Report_01_June.doc

Finally here is one by Human Rights Watch
http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2007/01/23/new-zealand-letter-prime-minister-clark-asking-review-refugee-standards

There is also the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/
Article 14(1) states that the right to asylum is a human right. This is a document which is ratified by New Zealand. Therefore when they are denying peoples right to asylum they are breeching their human rights.

Hope these are helpful

Who pays if you are committed to an insane asylum?

Posted on November 28th, 2009 by admin

I know that it doens’t necessarily happen like this in real life, but in the movies you often get somebody having a relative committed to an insane asylum in order to get their hands on money or a business, or something, and I was wondering, who actually pays the asylum fees?

Does medicaid cover being committed?

Family pays if you’re in a nice place…

"The State" pays if you’re in the "not so nice" place…

I’m a US resident can i go visit colombia even though i got my residency through political asylum?

Posted on November 28th, 2009 by admin

i got my residency last year i already went to outside of the us and came back w/o problem. but now i wanna go visit colombia but i’ve heard i may get deported due to the fact that i used to be a political asylee before. can i go and come back wit no problem?

If you have a green card, you’re free to travel wherever you like. You can’t travel back home on a refugee travel document or if you are still in asylum status, but once you have a green card, you can go back home or anywhere else without any special permission, and people in your situation do it all the time. It’s extremely unlikely that CBP or USCIS will have any questions about your travel, much less bother you. Among other things, they can’t just take your green card away even if they wanted to. You’d be entitled for a formal hearing before they could do that. Just remember you can’t stay out of the US for over 12 months without jeopardizing your green card status and you’ll be fine with US immigration. But don’t forget you aren’t an American citizen and the US can’t and won’t protect you if you get into trouble in Colombia.

The administration building represents an ultimate attention to detail with many fine features, for example an Italian laid mosaic and Burmantoft Tiles complimented by exclusive intricate stained glass.

Perth’s Tamil community affected by the plight of Sri Lankan asylum seekers heading to Australia

Posted on November 28th, 2009 by admin

Perth’s Tamil community has been affected by the plight of Sri Lankan asylum seekers heading to Australia for refuge…..

The Australian government seems to have dangerously sided with Sri Lankan fake Buddhist Sinhala “loyalist” immigrants against Tamil immigrants in Australia + has moved to ban any Tamil resistance in Sri Lanka as being just terrorist organizations – regardless of the human rights abuses of the land-grabbing Sri Lankan government…..

In order to justify that mistake, Australia now seeks to oppress + suppress refugees arriving from Sri Lanka by whatever means – including desperately attempting to dump them upon third nations such as Indonesia, uhh. This is a gross failure by self-serving white settler society….. but the Australian authorities are guilty of their own deceitful land-grab (the “NT Intervention” – an oppression of First Nation black Australians + a kind of mini martial law, uhh)…..

Also see http://www.tamilnation.org/refugees/index.htm

Over the next six years at least Amnesty International will work to shift the balance of power together with those who have been so far denied a say as they tell their own stories and strive to engage in the processes that determine their own future….. http://www.amnesty.org/en/demand-dignity

The billions of people who live in poverty are shut out, ignored and denied security by the actions and failures of the powerful. This is a human rights crisis….. http://thereport.amnesty.org/en/global-themes/demand-dignity
